Pirity Water Supply

The small, scattered settlement of "Pirity" is located near Villarrica on a hilltop and currently consists of approximately 28 properties. There are open wells that draw water from the shallow groundwater, and in dry years, water has to be carried up the hill in containers from the nearby stream.

Due to its proximity to the state capital, the demand for building plots has increased sharply.

In 2021, a borehole was drilled for a deep well and a water tower with an operations building was erected. For this, the electricity supplier had to upgrade its local grid.

Initially, only the four surrounding houses were connected, followed by two new buildings the following year. In 2023, two more houses were built, and the water network was expanded accordingly.

At the request of some residents, a further expansion was carried out in 2024, connecting eleven additional properties. The next expansion is planned for summer 2026.

The borehole has been drilled to a depth of 102 m, and the submersible pump (2.2 kW) is installed at approximately 80 m. The water is analyzed annually and complies with the Paraguayan drinking water standard NP 24 001 80 (and also with the German Drinking Water Ordinance 2023). Only polypropylene pipes with diameters of 2" and 1 1/4" were used for the distribution network to ensure high quality and purity of the water delivered to individual properties.

For humans and animals, as well as vegetable farming and gardens, clean water is an enormous enrichment of quality of life.
